Flying an aircraft in such a way as to intercept asymptotically a beam, as in an ILS (instrument landing system) localizer and glide path.

Where unique information is required, such as an alphanumeric code or a biometric image, a second mask is laid over the random phase mask in the recording, so that the laser beam captures the image of the second mask but scrambled by the random phase mask.
