According to him, the carriageway will be overlaid with 60mm asphalt concrete
binder course, 40mm asphalt concrete wearing course with pavement of 200mm thick and 200mm stone base.
Frankfurt Airport's 13,123ft (4,000m) runway 18 west has been given a new asphalt surface and
binder course plus LED lighting during scheduled maintenance work.
The asphalt base course was built from 0/32-C (AC 11 PS) crushed dolomite, gravel, 100% crushed gravel, 50% crushed dolomite and 50% crushed gravel; asphalt
binder course: 0/16-A (AC 16 AS), 0/16-[A.sub.PMB] (AC 16 AS PMB) crushed granite 11/16 + crushed dolomite 5/8 + (crushed dolomite and crushed granite 8/11, 50% and 50%); crushed granite 8/11 and 11/16 + crushed gravel (rest of aggregates); crushed dolomite 8/11 and 11/16 + crushed gravel (rest of aggregates); 50% crushed granite + 50% sand; 100% crushed granite; 100% crushed gravel.
The award-winning pavement is a 33.2-kilometer (20.6-mile) stretch of Route 63 that originally was built in 1963, mostly with a 178-millimeter (7-inch) rolled stone base and a 152-millimeter (6-inch) bituminous base, followed by a 44-millimeter (1.75-inch)
binder course of Type B asphalt--a mix with aggregates of 25-millimeter (1-inch) maximum size.
