Acute overinflation of the lungs due to extreme efforts to inhale to overcome a bronchial obstruction.

In the present study, the most common finding on HRCT was air trapping (77%) followed by bullous emphysema (59%), paraseptal emphysema (41%) and non-bullous emphysema (35%).
(1) It is, however, not pathognomonic, and can occur with bullous emphysema, pneumothorax and dilatation of the distal oesophagus.
