Mutation of CDH23, encoding a new member of the
cadherin gene family, causes Usher syndrome type 1D.
CDH1 is an original
cadherin and plays a pivotal role in epithelial structure remodeling and maintaining the stemness of stem cells in breast epithelial and cancer cells [5-7, 38-40].
During this process, E-cadherin, a hallmark of the epithelial phenotype, is downregulated, while neural
cadherin (N-cadherin), normally expressed in fibroblasts, is upregulated (Thiery et al., 2009).
We determined the expression of rat Apc, Espn (espin), Cdh2 (
cadherin 2), and Vim (vimentin) mRNA using the Roche Universal Probe Library (Roche Applied Sciences, Burgess Hill, UK) [Apc forward primer: 5-CTTCGTGT ACGGCAGCTCTT-3', reverse primer: 5 '-GCAGTTTCATGC TTGC TCTG-3' (probe 127, catalog no.

Kidney-specific
cadherin, a specific marker for the distal portion of the nephron and related renal neoplasms.
Of these, the first two belong to the adherens junctions, where the adhesion molecules
cadherin and catenin are present.
In regard to
cadherin behavior, an interesting finding was the switch to N-cadherin (Figure 2(b)), which is often observed during EMT occurring in metastasizing epithelial tumors [40].
