camera cone

camera cone

A component of an aerial camera that supports the entire lens assembly, including the filter. Collimating marks at the top of the cone define the focal plane of the camera. The cone is made of material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, so that collimating marks and the lens system are held in the same relative positions at operational temperatures.
