(anatomy)
Any normal or abnormal fleshy outgrowth, such as the comb and wattles of fowl or the mass in the inner canthus of the eye.
(botany)
A fleshy outgrowth developed from the seed coat near the hilum in some seeds, such as the castor bean.

En terminos generales, todas las muestras de Phaseolus vulgaris analizadas comparten varios atributos: forma reniforme; color rojo oscuro; textura lisa y lustrosa; presencia de hilo, arilo y caruncula. En cuanto a la predominancia del color rojo oscuro, este se debe al reducido tamano de la muestra que consideramos en el trabajo, la cual se encuentra acotada geograficamente al Noroeste argentino; como se ha mencionado anteriormente, las semillas de Phaseolus vulgaris son muy variables en cuanto a forma, color y patron (Berglund-Brucher & Brucher, 1976; Gentry, 1969; Gepts, 2006-2007).
