cassette ripping
Converting analog audio tapes to digital audio formats such as MP3 and AAC. Unlike CD to MP3 ripping, which is digital-to-digital, cassette ripping performs analog-to-digital conversion and then encodes the converted digital stream into the desired digital format. See USB turntable and VHS ripping.

| The dual cassette player in ION Audio's TAPE 2 PC system can be used as a standard cassette deck as well as make tape copies. It converts the analog audio tracks to digital PCM inside the deck and sends it to the computer via USB. Software in the computer converts the PCM to MP3 and other audio formats.
