In 1972, two of the authors (EP-H and LH) began collecting in the present Demix-Varennes quarry, which was inactive at the time, and have continued to make infrequent visits over the following 19 years during which a number of additional minerals were identified, including the rare species yofortierite, doyleite and catapleiite. A comprehensive study of the mineralogy of the Saint-Amable sill was initiated by the authors in 1991, and entailed the examination of a large volume of material collected over many years up to the present.
In Quebec, continued quarrying at Mont Saint-Hilaire has produced good specimens of genthelvite, sodalite (hackmanite), catapleiite, natrolite, analcime and sugilite.
