The passage of an object on the surface of a planet across the central meridian.

Its origin can be traced back to 1989 as the DOS program ZMPP by Hans-Jorg Mettig, used to time central-meridian transits of Jupiter's Great Red Spot.

While drawings are useful, timings of the central-meridian transits of Jovian features are the most scientifically valuable data an amateur can produce.
