(engineering)
A recorder in which a dependent variable is plotted against an independent variable by an ink-filled pen moving on plain paper, a heated stylus on heat-sensitive paper, a light beam or electron beam on photosensitive paper, or an electrode on electrosensitive paper. The plot may be linear or curvilinear on a strip chart recorder, or polar on a circular chart recorder.
