client download

A software application that is downloaded from the Internet and installed in the user's computer. Although countless Internet-based applications can be performed from within a Web browser, there are many "rich client" applications that require a more powerful program in the user's computer, such as Google Earth and Second Life. In such cases, a client program must be downloaded and installed before anything can happen. See client and rich client.
