A report of the incident placed on the Staithes
Coastguard Facebook page reads: "Staithes
Coastguard Rescue team were paged by Humber CGOC to reports of a person who had been collecting fossils who had been trapped in a landslide at Port Mulgrave.
"Humber
Coastguard then dispatched Berwick RNLI all-weather lifeboat with
coastguard officers from Berwick and police officers to proceed to Holy Island.
A spokesman for the
coastguard said: "Holy Island
Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked yesterday afternoon to work withNorthumbria Policeto search for a missing male on Holy Island.
A spokeswoman for the Llansteffan
Coastguard said: "The elderly couple struggled to get up the rocks, but did really well climbing up as far as they did, which certainly helped the helicopter to winch them off safely."
"The HM
Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick, along with Tarbert and Campbeltown
Coastguard Rescue Teams and Arran lifeboat, along with Police Scotland, are all involved in the search around the Mull of Kintyre area."
A spokesperson for the
coastguard said: "They were extracted from the vehicle.
Coastguard officers, returning from a separate incident on the causeway, instructed the driver to return to the island as they would not be able to complete the crossing.

Coastguard immediately plunged into the sea and rushed to their rescue before entering the dangerous zone,"

The proposals as they stand would mean Holyhead and Milford Haven
coastguard stations closing and Swansea being downgraded to just a day watch station.
As the Daily Post has reported, the Government proposed shutting 10 of the 18 UK
coastguard stations, including Holyhead and Milford Haven.
With other incidents, the total rescues handled by Liverpool
Coastguard station yesterday numbered 93, officials said.
