cold-finished steel

Carbon steel which has been cleaned and pickled and then rolled or drawn through dies to produce a dimen-sionally accurate section with an improved surface finish (and often with other improved properties).

In this Laneko application, the customer's product is draw-formed and then the PEM (Type S) nuts are automatically installed into the 1 mm-thick HSLA cold-finished steel product.
A visit to one of these mills, Gerdau Acos Finos Piratini, showed some 1,050 workers manufacturing rolled, forged, and cold-finished steel products, with 95 percent of production going for the internal market and the remainder exported to Argentina and other Mercosur countries.
