Various
concurrent programming languages [Kobayashi 1996a; Peyton Jones 1996; Pierce and Turner 1997; Reppy 1991; Shapiro 1989; Yonezawa and Tokoro 1987] have recently been proposed and are attracting a great deal of attention because of their usefulness in describing symbolic/numeric computations for parallel or distributed environments and inherently concurrent applications such as GUIs.
