An array of jacks or sockets in which wires (or other elements) may be plugged to control the action of an electromechanical device in a data-processing system such as a printer. Also known as plugboard; wiring board.

control panel
(1) A hardware control panel is a dashboard full of buttons, levers and dials for configuring and controlling the equipment.(2) A software control panel is a screen dashboard that presents to the user any combination of buttons, check boxes, submenus and input fields for configuring applications, the operating system and the hardware. "Options," "tools," "settings" and "preferences" are common titles for control panels. If a setting in a control panel is not modified by the user, the default settings are used. See default and settings.

Control Panel
a complete operating board used for centralized monitoring and control of production processes in complexes such as industrial enterprises, electric power plants, and water-, gas-, and power-supply systems. Measuring and monitoring instruments, pilot lights, control switches, and graphic panels are arranged on the control panel so that they can be easily read and reached. In addition to panels for the process control of entire enterprises—usually known as master panels, or, in enterprises with supervisory control, as instrument panels—there are control panels for systems, shops, and units.
