Plain film radiography is the first-line imaging modality; however, the
coracoid process is difficult to visualise with routine views due to the superimposed structures.
Coracoid process is a small hooked structure located on the scapular neck that arises anteriorly and serves as attachment for the coracoacromial, coracoclavicular and coracohumeral ligament, as well as for tendons of the coracobrachial, small pectoral and short head of the biceps brachii muscle.
Upper two heads are fused which arise from the
coracoid process and enclose musculocutaneous nerve between them.
The acromion and
coracoid process of the scapula are usually preserved despite severe hypoplasia of the body.
This was treated with an anterior field covering this volume and a smaller posterior field with the medial border at the
coracoid process. The prescribed dose was 50 Gy in 25 fractions, treating daily.
The short head arises by a thick flattened tendon from the apex of the
coracoid process and the long head arises from the supraglenoid tuberosity at the upper margin of the glenoid cavity, and is continuous with the glenoid labrum.

According to Clapham and Mead (1999), the scapula of the humpback whale is extremely diagnostic, lacking the acromion and having a very vestigial
coracoid process. In all other cetaceans, both of the processes are strikingly large and well developed, especially the acromion.
Overuse, trauma of the tendons, anatomic variations of the acromion or
coracoid process may lead to narrowing of the subacromial space, while glenohumeral or scapulothoracic joint instability, faulty posture or posterior capsule tightness may result in impingement due to "relative narrowing" (1,7).
From the medial border of the
coracoid process measure 2 of the patient's fingerbreadths medially and 2 inferiorly onto the upper border of the pectoralis minor muscle in the delto-pectoral groove.
Laterally, pectoralis minor inserts onto the
coracoid process, and the neurovascular bundle can be found lying posterior to the muscle and inferior and medial to the
coracoid process.
