Biologic and clinical significance of
cryoglobulins. A report of 86 cases.
Her rheumatoid factor was repeatedly high (512 and 480 [micro]/l) with repeatedly positive serum
cryoglobulins in a qualitative assay.
Consequently, we found this rare disease suitable for presentation due to the fact that the plaques placed on the trunk and
cryoglobulin positivity were in combination.
It occurs when
cryoglobulins - abnormal proteins in the blood - thicken and clump together, restricting blood flow to surrounding organs and causing damage to blood vessels.
Although the link between mixed cryoglobulinemia and PN is well-known, the lack of
cryoglobulin measurements is one limitation of our study
These particles include red cell fragments, microspherocytes, nucleated RBCs, nonlyzed RBCs, elliptocytosis, macrothrombocytes, platelet clumps, bacteria, parasitic organisms, and other interfering substances such as
cryoglobulin, cold agglutinin, and macroglobinemia.
The most common of these are preanalytic and analytic
cryoglobulin precipitates.
Immunofixation electrophoresis was performed in 17 solubilized
cryoglobulin samples from the 28 patients with cryoglobulinemia (60.7%) who had enough material for this analysis.
Receipt of packed erythrocytes, fresh frozen plasma,
cryoglobulin, and platelets; renal replacement therapy; and pleural or peritoneal drainage did not differ significantly between survivors and nonsurvivors (Table 2).
His tests including full blood count, thyroid function tests, antinuclear antibody,
cryoglobulin, cryofibrinogen, cold agglutinins, antiphospholipid antibodies and serum protein electrophoresis, which were performed to determine the etiology, were within normal ranges.
Operative details included operative length, cold and warm ischemia time, blood products administered (red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma, platelets, and
cryoglobulin), procoagulants administered (aminocaproic acid, Hospira, Lake Forest, IL, USA, and conjugated estrogens, Pfizer Canada, Kirkland, QC, Canada), epigastric surgical history (defined as a nonlaparoscopic, noncholecystectomy foregut intervention), vascular reconstruction (arterial conduit and/or mesenteric venous bypass), and retransplantation.
Immunoserological tests were performed at the Regional Immunology Laboratory of the University of Debrecen and included the measurement of ANA, RF, antibodies against extractable nuclear antigen (ENA), anti-SS-A, anti-SS-B, anti-DNA, anti-thyroglobulin (TG), anti-thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibody, serum immunoglobulin,
cryoglobulin, and complement levels.
