demoscene

demoscene

A worldwide community of programmers and artists ("demomakers") who create images and animations for pleasure. Many participate in "demogroups" where talent is pooled to produce the "demo." The demoscene started out in Europe in the 1980s when programmers hacked the first computer games and changed the way they behaved. For more information, visit www.demoscene.info and www.scene.org.

Second, it helps to trace the development of a distinctive set of stylistic elements, which, in turn, not only influenced game programming but led to what we know today as the demoscene (Reunanen, 2014).

These became known as demos, and the demoscene, a wide community of programmers who specialize in demos, still thrives today.
