Loading force at 500 mN was applied in a progressively increasing in 15 seconds; following indices were determined: Martens hardness (HM), Martens hardness from the slope of the increasing force/indentation
depth curve (HMs), indentation hardness (HIT), elastic intentation modulus ([E.sub.IT]), indentation creep ([C.sub.IT]), elastic ([[eta].sub.IT]) and plastic ([[eta].sub.plast]) parts of the indentation work.
Figure 9 displays the penetration rate and penetration
depth curves of piles in series J and series L, and it is found that the curves in Figure 9(b) are lightly messier than those in Figure 9(a).
Average lateral deflection Vs
Depth curves, average bending moment Vs
depth curves for each row in pile group were obtained.
6; Tables 7, 8), and slope (Tables 7, 8) computed from the penetration
depth curves were used in this study to discuss quantitative scratch resistance ("Penetration and residual depth: experimental curves analysis" and "Slope, penetration, and residual depth: statistical comparisons" sections) of the different types of multilayer coatings (MCs, as shown in Table 5) on wood surfaces.
It is worth to mention that the apparent dependence of elastic modulus on penetration depth is much likely an artifact arising from the fitting of contact radius versus penetration
depth curves introducing an apparent dependence on penetration depth, because a considerable dependence is shown also by the thick film (black series) at low penetration depth, which is certainly not due to substrate effect.
Lake
depth curves for the Deep, Shallow, and Ice Runs are shown, but we consider only the Ice Run curve.
The slopes of the force-penetration
depth curves were extracted in the penetration depth range of 0.3-0.4 mm and reported in Fig.
