With regard to information systems, a desirement is a processing task or type of output that is desired, but not absolutely necessary. We probably all have stories about how someone in our chain of command expressed a desirement and expected us to make it happen.
One way to look at this conundrum is to see the difference between "desirements" and requirements.
The key is exercising design restraint, focusing our requirements on the essential requirements rather than the endless list of
desirements, living within our budget and resisting the temptation to extend the schedule.
