Organo-clay (Nanomer 1.44P MMT - Aldrich), an onium modified montmorillonite (MMT) containing 35 - 45 % dimethyl dialkyl amine as organic modifier, was used after drying at 80 C for about 5 hours.
These key materials are produced through epoxy-amine chemistry, where appropriate alkyl and dialkyl amines are reacted with epoxides to form the corresponding amino alcohol adducts (Figure 4).24 Examples of starting amines include diamylamine, dihexylamine, bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine, dibenzylamine, benzylamine, etc.
