A plane that passes through the center of a sphere.
A plane that passes through the mid-points of a family of parallel chords of a quadric surface that are parallel to a given chord.

In addition to the bending in the
diametral plane due to high spots on the mandrels, there is bending in the longitudinal plane because the diameter of the sleeve is expanded by the mandrel but the adjacent sleeve is not.
