We attribute this change to the progradation of a megafan-like wedge of sediment from the Caledonia Highlands that caused differential loading, trapping of coarse-grained clastics in proximal areas, rapid salt withdrawal, and pronounced uplift of the Minudie Anticline
diapir. The combination of subsidence in the Athol Syncline and uplift of the Minudie Anticline may have caused a short-lived reversal of paleoflow in this part of the basin.
Ainsi, l'ascension de
diapirs a partir d'une grande accumulation de magma moins dense que l'encaissant est-il un phenomene important dans la croute inferieure ductile.
Evidently, the claystone was locally squeezed upwards along the lines of minimum resistance forming a
diapir (Vaher & Mardla 1969; Puura & Vaher 1997).
In defense of magmatic
diapirs. Journal of Structural Geology, 21, 1161-1173.
In several places on the shelf, salt
diapirs are close enough to the sediment-water interface to form brine pools that remain stable over time owing to continued seepage and the high density of the brine (Brooks et al.
The top of the structural complex associated with
diapirs is cut by the shear zone at the base of the upper till.
(1996): Rise, closure and reactivation of the Bicorp-Quesa evaporite
diapir (eastern Prebetics, Spain).
The limestones and shales are reminiscent of the local Hettangian succession and we have interpreted this anomalous outcrop as being the edge of a salt
diapir (see Fig.
1996) or the cap rock on a Carboniferous evaporitic
diapir (R.K.
Seismic profiles show the lineations to be related to zones of deformation and
diapir collapse near the margins of salt structures.
The result confirms the extension of the Agogo reservoir to the north of the discovery well and below the salt
diapirs. The well has been planned and drilled as a highly deviated one, to reach the sequences below the salt
diapirs and prove the existence of reservoir and oil charge also in this sector of the Agogo megastructure.
