The fluorocarbon industry was born around 1930 with the production of the first "Freon[TM]" C[Cl.sub.2][F.sub.2] (
dichlorodifluoromethane or "R-12").
Canadian Tire imported bar refrigerators containing
dichlorodifluoromethane, which is in violation of the Montreal Protocol.
According to the ruling, the two attempted to bring the bottles of CFC-12, or
dichlorodifluoromethane, into Japan for use as a refrigerant in outmoded vehicles via a flight from Bangkok to Narita airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, in May, in violation of the Customs Law.
More than 100,000 bottles of smuggled CFC-12, or
dichlorodifluoromethane, have been circulating among Japanese maintenance service providers since around last year for outmoded vehicles, prompting authorities to conduct investigations, they said.
With the change from
dichlorodifluoromethane (CFC-12) to the less ozone-depleting tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a), a broader variety of polymers is suitable for use.
Under section 4682(a)(2) of the Code, the specific chemicals subject to the excise tax are CFC-11 (trichlorofluoromethane), CFC-12 (
dichlorodifluoromethane), CFC-113 (trichlorotrifluoroethane), CFC-114 (1,2-dichloro-1,1,2,2,-tetrafluoroethane), CFC-115 (chloropentaflouroethane), Halon-1211 (bromochlorodifluoromethane), Halon-1301 (bromotrifluoromethane), and Halon-24-2 (dibromotetrafluoroethane).
In this process, a physical blowing agent, for example,
dichlorodifluoromethane (CFC-12) or a hydrocarbon such as pentane, is metered continuously under high pressure into the heated melt section of an extruder.
In addition, chlorine,
dichlorodifluoromethane (freon 12), and more recently, sulfur hexafluoride, as a component gas blend with argon or nitrogen," [6] have also been used in degassing operations.
We conducted this study to determine the possible etiologic agent(s) for a decrease in red blood cells among community residents in Taipei, Taiwan, after they were exposed to leakage of mixed fire extinguishants containing bromotrifluoromethane (C[F.sub.3]Br, Halon 1301), bromochlorodifluoromethane (C[F.sub.2]BrCl, Halon 1211), and dichlorodifluoromethane (C[Cl.sub.2][F.sub.2], CFC-12).
