An application in a computer or mobile device that retrieves the news. Apple Newsstand, Google News (formerly Google Play Newsstand) and Amazon Kindle Newsstand are examples. See newsreader.

Last Monday Apple announced its next version of the operating system behind its phone and tablet -- scheduled to be available in the fall -- that features a "digital newsstand," making the user experience of finding, downloading and potentially buying magazine and newspaper subscriptions easier for the end user.
