direct overwrite
Recording data in one pass without having to erase the existing data first. Magnetic disks, phase change optical discs and LIMDOW magneto-optic disks are direct overwrite storage technologies. In contrast, flash memory is not direct overwrite as it must be erased first before new data can be written into the same locations (see flash memory). See LIMDOW, phase change disc and magneto-optic disk.Copyright © 1981-2025 by The Computer Language Company Inc. All Rights reserved. THIS DEFINITION IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY.
