[i¦lek·trik ′chäp·ər] (electromagnetism)
A chopper in which an electromagnet driven by a source of alternating current sets into vibration a reed carrying a moving contact that alternately touches two fixed contacts in a signal circuit, thus periodically interrupting the signal.
