Addition of the fluorophore to erythrocyte lysates gave quenching values that correlated well with the electroendosmosis method for Hb[A.sub.1] (Corning Glytrac; r = 0.91, n = 25), and gave valid results with three heterozygous HbA/S samples.
Glycohemoglobin was measured as hemoglobin AI, (Hb [A.sub.1c] from 1978 to 1984 by isoelectric focusing (IEF), as Hb [A.sub.1] from 1984 to 1989 by electroendosmosis [4] (EEO), and as Hb [A.sub.1c], from 1989 until 1996 by HPLC with a Bio-Rad Diamat Automated Glycosylated Hemoglobin Analyzer (Bio-Rad Laboratories) [3].
