The oil is composed mostly of eleostearic acid, an unusual conjugated fatty acid that can polymerize, or harden, in the presence of oxygen.
For tung oil, with mostly conjugated double bonds from eleostearic acid (~ 77-82 percent eleostearic acid), the rate of autoxidation is much higher than that observed in linolenic acid, due to the conjugation.
The range includes Baobab, with soothing properties for skin and scalp; Parinari and Mongongo, which contain a high content of eleostearic acid for regenerativeand moisturizing properties; Ximenia, with long-chain fatty acids that provide good substantivity for skin and hair; Marula, which is hydrating and skin softening and Kalahari Melon, with a high essential fatty acids (EFA) content for skin restructuring.
