[‚em·fə·sə′mad·əs ′chest] (medicine)
The altered contour of the chest seen in pulmonary emphysema, with increased anteroposterior diameter, flaring at the lower rib margins, low position of the diaphragm, and minimal respiratory motion. Also known as barrel chest.
