One exception for the EnCase software showed, for example, that in the Windows 2000 environment, "a hard drive may appear to have fewer sectors than are actually available on the hard drive." (A sector is one of the storage slices that a hard drive is divided into.) In this case, attempting to restore a hard drive to an identical size drive will not restore all sectors.
