The esophageal hiatus is a very dynamic area, moving with each breath and each swallow.
Among group B patients, 1 had an esophageal hiatus area measuring more than 4 [cm.sup.2] and was excluded from the present analysis, and 3 patients were lost at follow-up, leaving 12 and 17 patients in groups A and B, respectively, who were available for the study.
