The first current includes the heirs of Hegelian dialectics, the various schools of Marxist thought (Leninism,
Eurocommunism, and so on) and philosophical thought (Georg Lukacs, the Frankfurt School, and so on), as well as the collectivist visions around pseudo-subjects of history such as state or race, represented by National Socialism and fascism.
In 1978, the French Communists were to publish a book with a similar title, L'URSS et nous (The USSR and us) (48), and it is at this stage that the two parties, protagonists with the Spanish party of the experience
Eurocommunism, reached the greatest level of closeness and engaged in the search for a 'third way', different from Soviet socialism and the social democratic experience; a way that combined unequivocally democracy and socialism (49).
During the heyday of
Eurocommunism, some Marxists sought to develop a better understanding of the relationships between the economic, political and cultural 'levels' of capitalism, and began to see how change in one of these areas might be applied to the others.
Marzani authored a number of studies of American Cold War policy and
Eurocommunism, and suffered a persecution similar to Fraina's.
The occupation widened the gap in the Finnish Communist Party between the minority and majority, which was turning more toward
Eurocommunism. The party split in two, and the critical stance on the Soviet Union during the occupation caused KU to lose its position as a "favorite" of the Soviet communist party (6) (see Salminen 1996: 101-103; Uskali 2003: 349; Ruusunen 2008: 265-266).
(51) In his article, Castoriadis pointed out that both Althusser and
Eurocommunism have been identified with the dominant methods used in capitalist countries: every position could be accepted as long as it has been inverted and transformed into an insignificant one.
Nugud was a sharp intellectual well versed in Marxist classics and the literature of
Eurocommunism. He agreed with many of Althusser's theses and was a great admirer of the Marxist historian Eric Hobsbawm.
In fact, we may call this process "left-revisionism." In a sense, such Western intra-Left debates as the "New Left" and
Eurocommunism had its impact in Turkey after a delay of two decades.
Twenty years after the end of the Soviet Union, "
Eurocommunism" is finally gone.
