Instantaneous vibration waveforms during 10 work cycles of the engine in good technical condition and with the defective exhaust valve are shown in Fig.
The effective orifice areas [A.sub.iv] and [A.sub.ev] (including the discharge coefficient) depend on the intake and the exhaust valve lift maps [l.sub.iv] and [l.sub.ev] provided by the manufacturer.
Improved engine life and exhaust valve lifespan through reduced cylinder temperatures.
In applications where a fast response time on modulating service, is required, the VBP also eliminates the need for an additional poppet or Quick Exhaust Valve to achieve the required closing speeds.
An example of Chatten's patented invention uses a simple co-axial planetary gear mechanism to provide "infinite discrete control of all the valve events" including the exhaust valve opening (EVO), exhaust valve closing (EVC), inlet valve opening (IVO) and inlet valve closing (IVC).
They were developed after in-service cylinders developed certain specific failure modes, including cracks resulting from reduced wall thickness (AD 2009-19-07), and cracks near the exhaust valve and barrel separation (AD 2009-16-03).
