According to Luc, the disease differs from other subperiosteal abscesses in that it develops without the mastoid bone involvement and that the infection spreads through the notch of Rivinus and branches of the deep auricular arteries located between the roof of the middle ear and the
external ear canal, and the subperiosteal area.
The inclusion criteria consisted of normal
external ear of individuals of age group between 18 and 30 years which consisted of 100 individuals with 60 adult males and 40 females.
(10) reported that, among the patients they operated on with an initial diagnosis of COM and with a polypoid mass in the
external ear canal, cholesteatoma was the main pathology in the majority of the cases (86.7%).
The right ear showed a large retained cotton swab in the medial end of the
external ear canal.

Fine-needle biopsy of

1) Cured: The tympanic membrane did not congest after surgery, and purulent secretions in the
external ear canal and otitis media symptoms disappeared; 2) remitted: the tympanic membrane still mildly congested after surgery, but purulent secretions in the
external ear canal and otitis media symptoms were significantly mitigated; 3) ineffective: the tympanic membrane was still congested after surgery, and purulent se- cretions or clinical symptoms were unalleviated or even aggravated.
In an anthropometric growth study of
external ear in Canadian Caucasians, it was found that the auricle width and auricle length reached the mature size in males at 7 and 13 years and in females at 6 and 12 years; respectively (Farkas et al., 1992).
As well as hair and skin, scientists also identified a large
external ear - the oldest in the mammalian fossil record - and soft tissues of the liver, lung and diaphragm.
