From an anatomical point of view the inferior longitudinal
fasciculus and the inferior fronto-occipital
fasciculus have been classically considered the two major associative pathways responsible for the epileptic propagation in OLE to temporal and frontal areas, probably because of their close relationship with the optic radiation within the sagittal stratum of Sachs (Figure 5).
Of particular interest are data on the arcuate
fasciculus, this pathway is critically involved with human language.
[133] found that the white matter tracts connecting frontotemporoparietal regions were directly related to impaired word comprehension involving control processes, where structural integrity and strength of functional connectivity of uncinate
fasciculus (UF) predicted semantic control abilities among the participants.
Analysis of the subcomponents and cortical terminations of the perisylvian superior longitudinal
fasciculus: a fiber dissection and DTI tractography study.
Finally, a third cross-sectional study of binge drinking adolescents and concomitant binge drinking and substance using adolescents found that binge drinking adolescents, again, had lower FA than control subjects in eight different regions, including the superior corona radiata (SCR), inferior longitudinal
fasciculus, superior longitudinal
fasciculus (SLF), inferior fronto-occipital
fasciculus (IFOF), and cerebellar peduncle.
However, we detected bilateral conduction block in the
fasciculus gracilis in somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP).
Moreover, a significant decline of emotion recognition skills (particularly affecting the identification of negative emotions) has been found related to microstructural changes (measured through fractional anisotropy) in right inferior longitudinal
fasciculus and inferior frontooccipital
fasciculus in nondemented ALS patients [148].
