fgrep
(tool)A variant of the
Unix grep command which searches
for fixed (uninterpreted) strings rather than regular expressions. Surprisingly, this is not always faster.

In
fgrep, the average number of specified and performed ALUs in each cycle is not significantly less than that of other benchmarks, yet it has the smallest speedup since most of them are wasted.
(Although we discussed searching single patterns here, our scheme will work for searching multiple patterns with either the Aho-Corasick algorithm used in
fgrep [Aho and Corasick 1975] or with agrep's algorithm.)
