The probable mechanism is the direct cytotoxic effect on the eccrine glands of
folinic acid, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin, but more observations are needed to confirm this hypothesis.
Supplementation with either folic acid or
folinic acid during treatment with MTX has been shown to ameliorate many of these side effects.
We selected a FOLFIRI (irinotecan,
folinic acid, and fluorouracil) plus bevacizumab regimen as neoadjuvant chemotherapy, considering the mutant KRAS status.
The use of "too large" rescue doses of
folinic acid (LCV, itrovorum factor) after HDMTX has been blamed for rescuing malignant cells and negating the MTX chemotherapy effect.

folinic acid in patients with gastrointestinal cancer," Cancer, vol.
A few days later, a CT-guided biopsy was performed, after which the chemotherapy regimen was changed to chronomodulated bevacizumab plus irinotecan with fluorouracil and
folinic acid (FOLFIRI).
Treatment of SCA with hydroxyurea temporarily reduced the need for blood transfusion in addition to erythropoietin and
folinic acid. The disease progression and worsening renal function necessitated continuation of only supportive care in the form of blood transfusions, analgesia, nutrition, and multivitamins.
Folic and
folinic acid blood levels in infants with diarrhea, malnutrition, and infection.
Background: High-dose methotrexate (HD-MTX) with
folinic acid (leucovorin) rescue is “gold standard” therapy for osteosarcoma.
Conversion chemotherapy can render initially unresectable liver metastasis to secondary resectability using modern chemotherapy regimens that include
folinic acid, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) and
folinic acid, fluorouracil, and irinotecan (FOLFIRI).[sup][4],[5],[6] In addition, chemotherapy efficacy can be increased using monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab and bevacizumab.[sup][7],[8] Combining chemotherapy with an aggressive repeat surgical resection, radiofrequency ablation (RFA), and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization may yield a potentially curative treatment and a high long-term survival rate for patients with unresectable CLM.[sup][9]
It has been approved for use in combination with chemotherapy or FOLFOX, which is a combination of
folinic acid, fluoroucil and oxaliplatin.
