gate-controlled switch
[′gāt kən‚trōld ′swich] (electronics)
A semiconductor device that can be switched from its nonconducting or “off” state to its conducting or “on” state by applying a negative pulse to its gate terminal and that can be turned off at any time by applying reverse drive to the gate. Abbreviated GCS.
