Oval opposite leaves with white “fringy” flowers in drooping clusters that look like shredded paper, and bluish black olive-like fruit with one stone. Fruit is edible but not good tasting. Bark tea has been used historically internally and externally to treat wounds, sores, infections, inflammations of the eye, mouth, gums, liver, gallbladder. Dried root bark used for liver, gallbladder pain, gallstones, jaundice, chronic weakness, headache, gallstones, rheumatism, pancreas, spleen, reduce sugar levels, stimulate appetite and digestion. A favorite plant for liver health.
