Green concrete , solar power panels, and energy-efficiency systems are being used by Ajman Municipality and Planning Department to develop the $4m (AED15m) Central Laboratory Building, on which construction is 40% complete.
Director-General of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi inaugurated the pouring of the
green concrete of its central laboratory building, which will include sunlight-reflecting glass to insulate it and save electricity.
The ministry added that the project had taken into consideration principles of sustainability by using
green concrete and reducing energy consumption by using external poles of solar energy, synchronising it with the contemporary designs to facilitate movement within the building to access different sections.
Once implemented, the Wastenizer system will produce 17,500 tons of good ash for the production of
green concrete. The pilot phase of the project has been scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2018, with the system entering full implementation in several regions of the emirate just before the opening of Expo 2020.
"The 3.5 million tonnes of waste can generate 17,500 tonnes of reusable ash for the production of
green concrete."
Since the new trends in concrete construction goes towards self-compacting
green concrete, it becomes important to study the possibility and effectiveness of using steel slag aggregate (SSA) in self-compacting concrete (SCC) as a replacement of coarse aggregate.
Ready-mix concrete company Rak Mix on Monday hosted 30 students from the Civil Engineering Department of the Sultan Qaboos University for a seminar titled '
