The
iliacus is part of the hip rotator muscles which are responsible for the flexing of the thigh and the forward tilting of the pelvis.
As was found in a previous study [19], many of the muscles spanning the hip were found to have signals too weak to be reliably measured (rectus femoris,
iliacus, biceps femoris short head, hip abductors, adductor longus, and adductor magnus).

Iliacus (RPSI) pelvic markers are shown.
The study by Wakefield and Cottrell (2015) demonstrated increases in vertical jump height by 1.74% and improvements in hip extensor ROM by 6.54% following static stretching of the antagonist hip flexor muscles (rectus femoris,
iliacus, and iliopsoas; 3 x 30 second).
As shown in Figure 6, the musculoskeletal model included all of the muscle groups which are functionally independent: (1) the
iliacus (IL) for the hip flexor, (2) the hamstrings (HA) for the hip extensor and knee flexor simultaneously, (3) the rectus femoris (RF) for the hip flexor and knee extensor, (4) the gastrocnemius (GA) for the knee flexor and plantar flexor, (5) the biceps femoris short head (BF) for the knee flexor, (6) the vastus (VA) for the knee extensor, (7) the tibialis anterior (TA) for the dorsiflexor, (8) the soleus (SO) for the plantar flexor, and (9) the gluteus maximus (GL) for the hip extensor.

After the
iliacus and psoas were bluntly dissected from the inner table of the pelvis, the pre-contoured cutting jig was secured to the pelvis using screws (Fig.
A CT scan revealed a normal gall bladder and possible fluid collection behind the right kidney and air in the
iliacus muscle.
The hip flexors consist of two muscles: the psoas major and the
iliacus. These muscles work together to allow you to lift your knees and bend at the waist.
Such an effect was shown for Redwings (Turdus
iliacus) that died after repeatedly circling the oil platforms during gas-flaring events (Alerstam, 1990:333).
[sup][1],[3],[4],[5] Despite this, the direct extension of a Brenner tumor to the
iliacus and psoas muscles is plausible as the ovaries are anatomically adjacent to the iliopsoas.
