information request (INREQ)

A message requesting that a communications search be carried out in a defined area, utilizing government circuits and local telephone service. It is a request originated by a flight service station (FSS) for information concerning an overdue VFR (visual flight rules) aircraft.

Information Request

a text whose semantic content expresses certain required information. After indexing, the information request becomes a retrieval instruction for an information retrieval system. For example, an information request on the subject “Overhead Power Transmission Lines” is expressed in the Universal Decimal Classification system by the index 621.315.1, which is a retrieval instruction to the retrieval system for the output of the necessary information.
