Some were cameos, portraits in raised or 'positive' relief, but most were
intaglios, where the engraver has painstakingly created 'negative' sculptural relief images of extraordinary dimensionality and detail.

The aim of the present research is to identify the minerals in selected archaeological items from Slovak National Museum collections (beads from the Bratislava City Museum and
