isolation joint

A joint that separates one concrete section from another so that each one can move independently; found in floors, at columns, and at junctions between the floor and walls.

isolation joint

A joint, such as an expansion joint, between two adjacent structures which are not in physical contact.

For below-grade blocks, the NAHB Research Center suggests adding an isolation joint between the concrete block wall and the slab on grade.
The product can be used with any concrete work requiring expansion or isolation joints such as driveways, curbs, pools, spas, and drains.
Several problems with assembly and overall design of isolating gasket kits were isolated during an in-depth testing program and during subsequent assembly and testing of more than 300 isolation joints. These problems were not particular to the isolating gaskets themselves, but more to the interactive behavior of the assembled connection.
Isolation joints are strips of compressible material (isolation strip) in the slab.
