Kid

a leather manufactured primarily from the hides of sheep and goats; highly tensile and flexible, it is used for gloves, shoe upper leathers, and prostheses.

The hide is intensively softened by chemical processing and mechanical action in preparing kid leather. Aluminum compounds, which slightly fix the structure of the hide, are used in tanning. Wheat flour, to give the hide body and softness, and egg yolk, a lubricating material, are added to the solution. The leather may be dyed almost any color. Kid is not widely used in the USSR.
