A unit of luminance (photometric brightness) that is equal to 1/π candela per square centimeter, or to the uniform luminance of a perfectly diffusing surface emitting or reflecting light at the rate of 1 lumen per square centimeter. Abbreviated L.

Lambert

 

a subsidiary unit of luminance, used mostly in the USA; named in honor of J. Lambert. Abbreviated notation: in Russian, lb; in international usage, la. One lambert is equal to the luminance of a surface exhibiting uniform diffusion in all directions and having a luminosity of 1 radphot (1 lumen/ cm²); 1 lambert = 3.20 × 10³ nit = l/π stilb = 10^-4 apostilb.

Lambert

 

the world’s largest glacier, located in eastern Antarctica. The Lambert Glacier begins in the northern part of IGY Valley and merges with the Amery ice shelf. The Lambert Glacier is 700 km long and 30–40 km wide. Expeditionary investigations of the Lambert Glacier have been conducted mainly by the Commonwealth of Australia and the USSR.
