Under the deal, the four councils will together pay
local bus operators more than pounds 12m for free travel for disabled people and those of retirement age in 2011-12.
It would be a welcome change if the public supported our
local bus services instead of constantly complaining and in a lot of cases over-exaggerating their complaints.
Local bus services gain at least pounds 1.2bn in public support each year but this could represent "poor value for money for taxpayers", the Office of Fair Trading said.
Free
local bus travel for people over 60 and disabled people comes into effect from Saturday April 1.
