A form of toughened silver nitrate consisting of 97-98% silver nitrate and 2-3% silver chloride. Also known as fused silver nitrate; molded silver nitrate.

The final scene of Lunar Caustic has him throwing his empty whisky bottle at an obscene drawing on the wall of the lavatory, and then cowering with more whisky in a dark corner of the tavern.
Works published posthumously include Lunar Caustic (1958), fictionalizing Lowry's experience as an alcoholic in New York's Bellevue Hospital, and Hear Us O Lord from Heaven Thy Dwelling Place (1961), stories heavily influenced by his Canadian experiences.
