Magnesium oxide mixed with water, often with the addition of asbestos fibers; used to cover steam pipes, furnaces, etc.

Al-Tabbaa has conducted extensive research on the carbonation technology of active magnesium oxide, including hydration characteristics, microstructure, carbonization properties, and industrial production; Liska and Al-Tabbaa [5] have found that active magnesia cement has superior capability to Portland cement in resisting hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid.
